Minister Tanner Welcomes Nation’s Best Cancer Computing Facility

Member for Melbourne, the Hon Lindsay Tanner MP, Minister for Finance, officially opened one of Australia’s most advanced medical computing facilities at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (LICR) on November 20..

Funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Enabling Grants scheme, the Australian Proteomics Computational Facility (APCF) is a vital tool in Proteomics, the study of proteins. It allows researchers to identify certain proteins that act as biomarkers, indicating the presence of diseases like cancer.

The APCF’s cluster of 128 powerful computing nodes allow researchers to match protein samples against a database of more than 6.7 million known proteins at groundbreaking speeds, and share their results in real time with researchers around the country.
