The Melbourne Branch of Tumour Biology has close ties to the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Research at the Melbourne Branch includes themes such as growth factors and cancer, cell signalling, proteomics, lymphangiogenesis, colon cancer bioinformatics and genetics. Directed by Professor Tony Burgess, the Melbourne Branch was established in Parkville in 1980.

The Melbourne Centre for Clinical Sciences integrates laboratory, translational and clinical sciences in coordinated and strategic research themes that are central to the global Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research mission and Programs. Based at Austin Health (Heidelberg, Melbourne), several senior Melbourne Centre research staff have clinical appointments and are involved actively in the treatment and care of cancer patients.
